One thing about me: I freaking love marketing metrics.
The only thing better than you handing me the keys to your email dashboard or Google Search Console is the thrill of uncovering a hidden gem in the data that can change everything.
Like discovering that your newsletter is driving way more sales than you thought (true story, happened in the last cohort of the Decelerator).
Or that organic search is actually your top referral source for new clients when you've been spending all your time on Instagram (another true story!).
I get not every biz owner is so excited about the metrics. A tracking spreadsheet might not be the cutest part of business.
What I hear talking to solo business owners each and every day, a lot of us also have some big feelings about metrics.
I wanted to know more about how you're all using metrics and how you feel about metrics, so last month I put together a very unscientific, 60-second survey.
And 67 of you answered (from the US, Canada, the UK – and Bulgaria, hi Meg 👋).
What stood out wasn’t the fact that most of you are at least tracking the essentials.
It was the tension around them.
In your responses, you used words like “too corporate,” “like dieting” and “pure fear.”
One person wrote:
“Logically, I know my metrics don’t define my self-worth… but emotionally it feels like a direct attack.”
Woof. That one stayed with me.
Because I know that metrics are powerful.
What's magical about metrics is that it can show you everything you said you wanted your metrics to tell you about your business like:
✨ How to get more clients
✨ What you can stop spending time on
✨ Validation that what you're doing, works
But you can't access that intel if you're afraid to look under the hood.
I’m going to be sharing more about this over the next couple of weeks as we shift into Decelerator waitlist mode this month (because this is exactly the kind of stuff we cover inside the cohort).
In the meantime, I pulled everything together into a short report with the full breakdown of results and the patterns I’m seeing:
If you’ve ever felt like you know you should be tracking but avoid it anyway…
Or if you track but don’t know what to do with that info…
I think you’ll see yourself in this (yes, even if you run your business mostly on ✨vibes✨).
Until next time, go slow and stay steady.

PS: The Decelerator waitlist is reopening real soon and I’ll send the details here first. Or you can reply “waitlist” and I’ll make sure you don’t miss it.
