I’ve been spending all my available free time staring into the little dirt cells where I’ve planted the first wave of seeds for my cut flower garden.
Which also means that I’m thinking, once again, about how what’s true in the garden is also true in our businesses…
I was reflecting on this email I wrote at the end of last summer (around the same time that I started to blame myself when a batch of notoriously difficult seeds didn’t germinate) and it seemed like a good time to reshare it with you too.
Hands up if you've got...
- A downloads folder full of freebies
- Hours of course content gathering digital dust
- A wildly complicated marketing plan (that you mostly followed through on, but the Notion dashboard is 👌)
And... you still feel like you're shouting into the void.
You show up, day after day, but the results don't match the effort. Wins feel random and client inquiries feel more like luck than strategy. Your motivation wobbles... until you freeze up completely.
Which is when that voice creeps in:
"Maybe I'm just not cut out for this."
But here's the thing: it's not you.
Most small business advice wasn't made for businesses like ours.
It was built for bros with big budgets and bigger egos -- not the values-driven solopreneur trying to grow a business without selling your soul.
So when you've flung every strange of spaghetti (and rigatoni and penne) at the wall and nothing seems to stick, of course you start to question yourself.
What if the problem isn't your effort... what if it's the fact that the pieces don't connect?
What if you don't just need more tactics, but a structure that helps you know what to do and what to skip?
One that slows you down so you can move forward with clarity and actually stay steady.
One that helps your effort add up instead of leaking out in a dozen directions.
That looks like:
- A repeatable system that connects the dots between awareness, connection and conversion
- Flexible structure to take action, and
- Support to stay in your business
Which is what I offer here at Slow & Steady... but for now, I just want to share what I've been thinking about this week:
✨ Even if your garden looks a little wild right now - overgrown, messy, maybe a few weeds... that doesn't mean you planted the wrong seeds.
It just means it's time to tend what's already growing and gently fill in the gaps.
Until next time,
