It’s a sunny Wednesday morning. I’m on a strategy call with a new client.
We’re talking about growing her network and creating more conversations with potential clients – i.e. s the most important revenue-generating activity in her biz.
“We don’t just want to be talking to anyone,” I say.
Then I pause. What I want to say is “you have to be strategic.”
But whe words feel thick and heavy in my mouth, like something a used-car salesman might say (did you just think of Danny DeVito as Matilda’s dad Harry Wormwood because I sure did).
I force the words out anyway, softening them with: “this feels weird to say, but…”
The rest of the day I replayed the conversation over in my head. Why did I dilute advice that was absolutely correct? The advice she was literally paying me for?
Because, like so many women entrepreneurs and small business owners, I’ve been trained to act like I’m not actually running a business.
We don't launch, we do “cozy promotions.”
We don’t sell, we just “offer value” and pray someone buys from us.
We’re not in sales conversations, we’re “inviting people in.”
Sound familiar?
You started your business to align your work with your values. I did too.
But most marketing advice wasn’t designed for us.
We’re told to show up in ways that we’ve been told not to, in places that weren’t designed for us, on platforms run by billionaires that hold opposing values to our own.
Marketing doesn’t feel like an essential element of running our business, it feels like a compromise.
And when it doesn’t work, we blame ourselves.
This disconnect is what I’ve spent my career working to solve.
And now, I’m building something new – because you don’t just need another plan. You need structure and support to shift your relationship with marketing, to take action and to keep going when it feels hard.
✨ If you’ve ever wished marketing felt aligned instead of a constant uphill climb, the waitlist is right here.
You’ll get first access – and the best goodies of course – when the doors open.
I can’t wait to share more.
Until then, go slow and stay steady.
