It seemed fated, as if all the planets had aligned just for me to ensure that whatever comes next for Slow & Steady, for me, would be a smashing success. Sold out launches, six figure paycheques, famous on the Internet.
All I have to do is write down what I want on this piece of paper, in this circle.
But what if I write the wrong thing? What I plant the wrong seeds?
I closed my eyes, tried to imagine what it was that I wanted.
Here’s what came up: Interesting work with cool people.
Okay! That’s vague and also somewhat uninspiring. I tried the exercise again and came to the same conclusion.
Now I’m not just panicking about planting the wrong seeds I’m panicking about not being able to dream big enough.
What if interesting work with cool people means something like, a job?
I shared my panic with my therapist. How I wrote some things down on the circle but I wasn’t even sure if any of it was right. How I was afraid that maybe I had planted the wrong seed.
Her response was what you’d expect a therapist to say: “what if it wasn’t possible to plant the wrong seeds?”
Yes, of course I know this intellectual… but a part of me whispered “but what it was!”
That’s when she told me to plant all the seeds I’ve got.
It reminded me of my friend and coach Taylor says about the Whirl Effect. How in order to get clarity, you need to take action.
I’ve spent the better part of the last two months analyzing, auditing, picking apart all the facets of my business and my work. Trying to parse out what works, what doesn’t. What do I like to do? What do I want to do?
I don’t know if I have the answers, I don’t know if I even know what seeds I have to plant.
But I do know that there comes a point when you have to stop collecting and just start. Plant what you’ve got.
Plant all the seeds and see what blooms.
