This week I ate my first Ontario peach. Freshly picked that very morning and still warm from the sun. I sucked the juice off my fingers, the nectar running down my wrists.
It’s a moment I wait for every year. But I know Ontario peaches can only mean one thing: August.
While there is still so much summer left to be had, September is now undeniably on the horizon. July felt slow but now everything feels like it’s standing still.
The calm before the storm.
Back to school. Fall conference and event season. All the Q4-finish-the-year-strong energy that will be here before we know it.
This is the time when I like to get into deep planning mode, mapping out the next few months:
- Planning for upcoming launches
- Getting my end-of-year client delights onto the calendar
- Thinking about when I might want to start winter break
- Blocking off the second week in November because now in my 7th year of having a child in public school I know with absolutely certainty that she will be home sick that week
It’s also when I like to take care of all the little admin tasks that tend to pile up during busier seasons.
Make hay while the sun shines, you know?
Or, don’t.
Spend a full 30 minutes eating that peach. Go for a swim. Take a nap.
There’s no need to manufacture busy work if you don’t have to. We’ll be plenty busy soon enough.
Until then, go slow and stay steady.
